LombokNesia-The Gili islands are three small islands situated along the Northwest coast of Lombok island: Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno.
There are no roads, no cars, no motorbikes, just bicycles and carts pulled by small horses (called Cidomo). With its white sand beaches and its turquoise waters, the Gilli islands are a great place to relax and to feel completely disconnected.

The best season to travel to the Gilis is between May and September.

Gili Trawangan:
Gili Trawangan is the largest island, the most known, and also the most developed. Discovered in the 80’s this beautiful island offers to its visitors a large number of restaurants, bars, clubs, resorts and diving centers.

Hotels & Guesthouses:
We advise you “Woodstock” with its beautiful rooms and outdoor bathrooms (450 000 – 700 000 rp), “Corner hide away bungalow” with its very friendly staff and clean rooms (250 000 rp) or if you are looking for a more remote hotel, the “Pondok Windy” (400 000 – 500 000 rp).
Activities:
There is a lot of different things to do in Gili Trawangan. The island offers great opportunities todive or snorkel (Gili Trawangan has 22 diving centers beach front). You can also visit the mosque, discover the turtle conservatory center, enjoy a boat trip or fishing trip, surf (you can rent a surfboard at the Surf Bar for 30 000 rp/hour), cycle (go on the sud-est and enjoy an amazing sunset with a view on Gunung Agung of Bali), relax at a spa or participate to a yoga class.

Restaurants:
- “Blu da Mare”: this excellent Italian restaurant serves delicious spaghetti and very fresh sea food. It’s not a big restaurant so if you are less than 6 it’s the perfect place but not for a group. You will spend between 60 000 and 150 000 rp for a main course.
- “Kokomo”: the only gastronomic restaurant in Gili T. The fish is so delicious there: very fresh and well cooked. They also propose some beef and it’s excellent. For me this restaurant is one of the best !
- “Cafe Gili”: located front beach, you can enjoy a stunning view. Their seafood is so good and their nutella pancakes are so yummy ! Service sometimes can be a bit slow though.

Bars:
In Gili Trawangan, you have the choice between hip and more classic bars where you can just drink a bintang and enjoy the view.
- “Tir na Nog”: the perfect place to meet people, have drinks, party or see a football match. Everyone in the island called it “Irish”.
- “Blue Marlin”: the biggest bar of the island. Very good music and a huge dance floor. If you are looking for a place where you can party hard, this is the one !
- “Sama Sama”: the reggae bar of the island. The group is really good and is playing every night.

Shopping:
Spend some time at the main market “Pasar Seni”: you will find a lot of shirts, accessories and beach clothing. There is also a shop (“Vintage delivery” – just behind the market) with baby doll dresses, amazing leather bags and vintage accessories.
Gili Air:
This is the closest island from Lombok. A good mix of Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno: quieter than Trawangan but more populated and larger than Meno.
Gili Air is well-known for its peaceful beaches, delicious coconuts and amazing diving spots.

Hotels & Guesthouses:
If you are coming with a group, we advise you to stay in the villa “Kai’s Beachhouse” with its beautiful rooms, traditional decoration and outdoor bathrooms (700 000 – 1 500 000 rp) or “Youpi Bungalows” with its colorful walls, very friendly staff and comfortable rooms (600 000 rp).
Activities:
Gili Air proposes three activities except tanning and relaxing : you can dive and snorkel there (there are colorful fishes and corals in splendid blue waters), you can cycle along the island (“Wiwin cafe” rents bikes for 40 000 rp per day) and you can also enjoy a yoga lesson at the beach.

Restaurants:
- “Biba”: this excellent Italian restaurant serves delicious pizzas and seafood tagliatelle. A perfect place for lovers and with an amazing panorama. You will spend between 30 000 and 70 000 rp for a main course.
- “Paradiso 2″: a very good Indonesian food restaurant, a friendly staff and a bamboo authentic decoration. I really recommend you this place.

Bars:
My favorite place in Gili Air is “Mirage”. You can enjoy a spectacular sunset and have a drink there. You will spend around 50 000 rp for a drink.

Gili Meno:
This is the smallest island of the Gilis, very peaceful, simply perfect for the couples. You can relax and enjoy the heavenly landscape. Gili Meno is a paradise for divers and for all the persons that want to disconnect from everything.

Hotels & Guesthouses:
There is not a lot of places where you can stay in Gili Meno, so we advise you to book before you arrive. My two favorite addresses are:
- “Adeng Adeng”: bamboo houses and rooms with outdoor bathrooms and very comfortable. You will spend between 350 000 and 500 000 per night, depending on the season.
- “Maha Maya”: one of the best hotels of the island. Very chic, a good service and the decoration is amazing. You can also eat there, such delicious food! You will spend around 1 500 000 rp per night.
Things to do in Gili Meno
Activities:
You absolutely have to see the turtle sanctuary and the Taman Burung with its selection of more than 200 exotic birds from Australia and Indonesia.
You can also snorkel and dive (near the Amber house, the spot is amazing), have a yoga ormeditation lesson at sunset.

Restaurants and bars:
- “Adeng Adeng”: A good Thai restaurant with a good selection of alcohols and an amazing beach view. You will spend between 25 000 and 70 000 rp.
- “Rust Warung”: if you are looking for a restaurant where you can have an excellent and delicious fresh fish, this is the perfect place ! You will spend between 50 000 and 75 000 rp.
