Ekas Bay is primarily a fishing village with very little development. It is no surprise that the village lacks many basic facilities. Here are some useful tips to help you prepare your trip to Ekas Bay:

• Making phone calls are ok, but getting good WiFi or 3G is very difficult.
• The closest market is more than one hour away, so you will have to depend on your resort’s amenities.
•  It is difficult to find a homestay, instead, you will more likely find resorts starting from 60 USD a night. If you are feeling more adventurous, you may opt to stay with the villagers for a more authentic accommodation.
• Closest ATM is 1.5h away, so make sure that you bring enough cash with you.
• The roads in the Bay are gravel, undeveloped ones. Do take extra precautions when riding or driving on such roads. If you need some assistance, you can always find someone at the resort to accompany you.

It is important for you to be very well prepared for your Ekas Bay trip, but I guarantee that nothing will prepare you enough for the beauty that awaits you in this secret bay!

You will find yourself facing with world-class waves that break on big swells (4-5ft plus), and there are plenty of alternative surf spots and a beach break for beginners if the waves are too big for you.

As Ekas bay is the home of a fishing village, the locals here are most well known for their lobsters. You’ll be able to taste some of the freshest and most delicious lobsters grilled to perfection a la Ekas Bay style. If you want to have seafood BBQ with your own catch, most of the resorts providefishing trips and also give you the opportunity to meet the local fishermen.

As you gaze towards the turquoise sea, you will observe the series of small floating fishing huts that are spread throughout the bay. You can even visit them, and move from one floating hut to another in a traditional fisherman boat.

The beautiful pristine blue water of Ekas bay also offers great opportunities for snorkeling, where you will discover a rich marine life that is full in color and diversity.

Often referred as a rejuvenation place, this remote and tranquil bay is perfect for a quiet getaway: no phones, no Internet, no traffic, only you and the nature. You can simply ride your scooter around the hills surrounding the bay, and you will be awarded with some of the best panoramic views you’ll ever see.

Stay there for few days, a week, or a month; it will be hard not to fall in love with the place, even more if you are a surfing addict. When there are no waves, this place is always windy, so if you are a kitesurfer, this is also one of the best location to practice Kite Surfing every day! But of course, do bring your own equipment.

How to get to Ekas?

Getting to Ekas is actually not that difficult. From Lombok airport, it will take 2 hours drive on newly constructed roads. You can also get a boat from Kuta, Lombok. There is a slow ferry from Bali that will drop you very close to the bay.

Looking for a resort in Ekas?

There are a few resorts in Ekas. We stayed at Ekas Breaks and we would highly recommend this place. The rooms are in new bungalows, the beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are large and clean. The cost is about 60 USD per night, and negotiable if you want to stay a bit longer. There is a beautiful swimming pool in the middle of the resort, and the restaurant serves delicious food for a decent price. The staff and owners are very friendly and welcoming, service is impeccable. They also provide surfboards for rent (they have their own boat to bring you to the surf spot), hire a scooter, go for a fishing trip or enjoy snorkeling.

The other resorts are more expensive. For cheaper budget there is a nice homestay at 25USD per night at Ekas beach.

Why visit Ekas bay?

This is THE place for a nice getaway; Ekas Bay’s beauty is unparalleled and it is extremely quiet and peaceful. You can access it quite easily from Bali, major cities of Java, and Singapore. One weekend here would be enough. My only advice would be to be well organized and bring all the things you might need as once here, it will be difficult to find the right facilities. Definitely a place for a good adventure or for a relaxing holiday!
